La Plagne consists of over ten villages, which interlink to provide a huge amount of skiing. The feeling of touring from place to place is easily achieved in this area. From the central village of Plagne Centre pistes radiate to the satellite resorts of Belle Plagne, Plagne Villages, Plagne Soleil, Plagne 1800 and Aime 2000. Further links enable quick access to the outlying areas of Montalbert, Longuefoy, Montchavin, Les Coches and Champagny.
Most of the skiing is of the "motorway" variety -i.e. it's very enjoyable, with plenty of scope for beginners and intermediates to make rapid progress.
There are a number of runs suited to good skiers, particularly those from the Bellecote Glacier. The runs from the Grande Rochette down towards Champagny are seldom boring and there are some steep runs over the ridge above Aime 2000.
The most enjoyable aspect of skiing in the area is the feeling you can get of touring from village to village. Relatively inexperienced skiers can get to some of the outlying villages without coming across anything of great difficulty, though time must be allowed for the return.
Skiing to places like Montchavin, Montalbert and Champagny for lunch can be very pleasant and a good piste map helps lower intermediates to find the easier routes to these places.
Future developments should make the Peisey/Les Arcs areas skiable from La Plagne, creating a huge interlinked network of pistes.
For the expert, the off-piste skiing (with a guide) can be phenomenal.
